Effect of metakaolin on the autogenous shrinkage of alkali-activated slag-fly ash paste

The high autogenous shrinkage of alkali-activated materials made from slag and fly ash is recognised as a major drawback with regard to the use construction materials. In this study, metakaolin was introduced into slag-fly (AASF) paste mitigate shrinkage. mitigation mechanism explained by studying influences on microstructure, related properties, mechanical properties AASF paste. It found that adding could significantly reduce chemical This accompanied decrease in alkalinity pore solution, reduced drop internal relative humidity, an increase porosity Moreover, incorporation does not change type reaction products, but greatly delays formation products addition metakaolin, above 5% binder, results lower 28-day compressive flexural strength
